Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

DEI Hero

Our statement

We are committed to healthcare that respects the dignity of each individual and honors their faith, culture, and community. We welcome providers, professionals, and volunteers of all backgrounds, economic statuses, races, ethnicities, sexes, genders, and ages. Our focus on diversity empowers us to maintain policies, practices, and attitudes that are respectful and inclusive. We are a stronger organization because of our diversity.

    Equitable care

Our holistic approach to caring for both our patients and our employees creates an inclusive environment where all patients receive high-quality, culturally responsive, equitable care, and all employees are engaged in achieving quality outcomes. Our patients and employees come from many different religious and cultural backgrounds, and speak a wide variety of languages. It is our job to respect and respond to a person’s culture and always provide the best possible care.

      HOPE Commission

M Health Fairview is committed to building a system where all members of our community are treated with dignity and respect, and all patients receive the highest level of quality care. The HOPE Commission is leading a multiyear effort to engage the Fairview, University of Minnesota Physicians, and Medical School communities in building relationships and trust, both within and outside of our walls. This gives us a greater ability to produce more equitable outcomes and inclusive environments and experiences for our patients, employees, and communities.

      Our community commitment

Fairview Health Services is committed to the health and wellbeing of our communities. For generations we have served the people of Minnesota, cared for our patients, and invested in the people and partnerships that make us stronger, together. As a nonprofit health system and an anchor institution — an organization rooted in our communities — we have a commitment to intentionally apply our long-term, locally focused economic power and human capital in partnership with community to mutually benefit the long-term wellbeing of both.

We recognize that this commitment begins in and with our communities. We collaborate with community-based organizations, local public health departments, and other health systems. Our efforts, resources, and commitments are investments in the health and wellbeing of our communities where we live, work, learn, and play.

      Employee Resource Groups

Employee Resource Groups are voluntary, employee-led affinity groups that connect people with shared experiences and perspectives. The groups focus on strengthening our system and patient experience in four key areas: community connection, organizational impact, meaningful change, and people development.

“Our diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts are vital for ensuring employees feel respected in the workplace. We strive to apply a learning mindset in order to improve health equity inside and outside of our hospital and clinic walls.”
